Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. The very first game to actually incorporate lightsabres into the gameplay. What can I say
about it, it was tough, mighty tough, but still easier than Dark Forces. In this, you play Kyle Katarn, and your father has
just been murdered by a group of seven Dark Jedi, the leader being Jerecc, a blind and eye-less man. These seven are trying
to find an energy pool left over by the residue of many jedi, and with it Jerecc will empower himself to become the most powerful.
As Kyle Katarn, you start out with no sabre, but with weapons, in pursuit of 8t-88, who has stolen the disk which contains
the directions to the Valley of the Jedi.
The single-player game was done very well, with incredibly gigantic levels. Let me just say that this game will take
5 times longer to beat than Jedi Outcast. There are once again many heart-stopping areas which will dazzle your mind (not
eyes, because this is one ugly game, for today's standards). For instance, you travel through the run-down corridors of Nar
Shaddaa, do battle with SEVEN dark jedi, 2 at once at one level. Plus, the most exciting, trying to escape a falling ship
which is tilted out of proportion, so you don't know where you are going. There is also a cameo by Max from Sam & Max
Hit the Road.
Multi-Player offers the standard modes, with the lightsabre twist of course, there is Free For All, Capture the Flag,
Team FFA, etc. While there isn't really a whole lot new here in MP, it's the levels which keep you coming back. They are beutifally
crafted, with secrets a plenty for the tactitian.
One thing I'll mention about how this is better than the rest of the series, the lightsabre combat isn't all button mashing,
and there is actually skill required to defeat your enemies. All in all, this is a spectacular package with enough value to
keep you going for a long time, but now in a galaxy far away. This is all not to mention the expansion pack, Mysteries of
the Sith, reviewed later.
