Wizard's First Rule is the exciting start to one of the best Fantasy Seires of this time. It is written by Terry
Goodkind. Wizard's First Rule takes place in a land split in three by a mysterious barrier. The three lands are
D'Hara, the Midlands, and Westland. Our star, Richard Cypher lives in Westland. He is a woods guide, and fighter.
He is also one of the coolest characeters ever designed. Much like David Palmer in the first and second (though not so much
the third) season of 24, he can't seem to make the wrong decision. Westland is a farely safe land, devoid
of magic. The Midlands and D'Hara are filled with magic. D'Hara is led by the evil tyrant Darken Rahl. I'd
just like to pause for a sceond here, and say how well Terry Goodkind did there. 'Darken Rahl' man you don't need
to be a geinus to guess he's evil, what a perfect name. When you meet the character more, the name sounds even better
suited. As I was saying, Darken Rahl is the tyrant leader, out there for massive personal gain which you will hear more
of later. such things are of little concern to Richard. He is a real good guy, but not interested in the affairs
of other lands. yet. One day, he meets a girl in the woods, he helps her, and brings her back to his village.
Her name is Kahlan. He takes her to his friend's house, Zedd. Zedd is an old man, who appears slighly mad.
He is a cloud gaiser. When they meet him he is standing naked upon a rock. Zedd gives help and advice.
He also offers Richard a marvelous gift, the sword of truth. To earn this, Richard must pass a test, he must
be able to use his anger. Richard inherits a new responsibility, and then sets off to help the world. Suddenly
Darken Rahl is more important.
This book is a great read. Nearly impossible to put down (only because you eat paste-SWNerd). The action
starts in right away as does the amazingly well thought out plot. The Characters are believable, likeable, and easy
to relate to. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good Fantasy read. But don't stop there, the entire
seires is out there, and Terry Goodkind is still writing more.
